When it's Spring again, I'll bring again tulips from Amsterdam! (Sing!) 'What's that got to do with bowling?' you may be asking yourself. Very little - except a short holiday to that wonderful city was the primary reason for my missing the deadline for the last C&B News. So, my sincere apology to my regular reader for my failure.
But not only am I back, but we're back on the bowling green! Yes, the new outdoor bowling season has started and I write this on the evening of our Opening Day. New President Tom McDonald gave a warm welcome to a good turnout of bowlers on what was a cold but pleasant afternoon. Anne Blake, President of our Ladies Section threw the first jack and the season was underway. So, I'll be able to report on real bowling matters in future issues as we look forward to competing in our various leagues and our internal competitions. We also have some interesting friendly matches in prospect including a home and away fixture against a team of curlers from Currie (and I don't mean hairdressers!).

And, after a 3 year break, the 24hr Bowlathon run by Grant Wilson & Ross Young is making a return to our Club from 1pm on Saturday 9th June through to 1pm on Sunday 10th June. That will be followed by our very successful raffle. So, please come along and support this event which is being run to raise funds for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at St John's Hospital, Livingston as well as the Edinburgh Transplant Games Team/Transplant Unit. For further information on getting involved or donating raffle prizes please contact Ross Young via e-mail at
While all the bowling is going on Social Secretary Ron Duguid will still be working his little (?) socks off organising our month end Cabaret Nights which this month features 'The Legends' trio playing a variety of 60s, 70s and 80s music to be followed next month by a 'Heartbeat' night.

Sadly, the onset of the bowling season brings a temporary end to our Wednesday afternoon Bingo seassions so I won't see some of my 'Golden Girls' until October. But, we still have Bingo on a Thursday night, Social Dancing on a Wednesday night and new players would be welcome for our carpet bowls on Monday nights. So, as always, why not come and join us? A warm welcome is guaranteed!
