Balerno Bowling Club (BBC) is always keen to welcome new members and as an incentive we have frozen subscriptions for another year. If you don’t wish to bowl regularly there is a restricted bowling social membership.
The popular club was founded in 1885 and is situated in the heart of the village. The green is in normal circumstances, open for play every day from 11am (April to September).
BBC play in Bowls Scotland National events and hosts internal and domestic competitions. Men and women members regularly feature on the podium in events organised by various bodies, including the Edinburgh Bowling Association, West Edinburgh League (WEL) and the Water of Leith Senior Bowling Association (WOLS). Our members have distinguished the club by winning National, Scottish and District titles.
League games are played throughout the summer. Our ladies play on a Wednesday afternoon, gent’s on Wednesday and Friday evenings and the thriving senior section have league games on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. We also play friendly games against touring clubs throughout the season.
The club is also a thriving social hub with a busy bar where BT Sports is screened along with regular pool and darts events. Keg beer such as Belhaven, Tennent’s and Carlsberg, bottled ales and an extensive spirits selection are on sale at the fully licienced bars.There's a separate function downstairs suite (capacity 120) hosting regular cabarets throughout the year, giving a stage to some well-known Scottish artists. The function suite has its own bar and is available for members to hire for all occasions.
